Does anyone recall the president in “Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy? Well congratulations Republican Party not to be outdone by British SyFi you have your own 2 head 3 armed monster of your own creation. It was all fun and games when he was spewing your Birther BS.
Sadly, this country loves and rewards narcissism (and celebrity) to such a degree that Donald Trump actually could become president. People who assume his non-stop steam of verbal diarrhea will sink him haven’t been paying attention to the country in which they live. They still believe–against all evidence to the contrary–that facts matter, that lies and bullshit are disqualifiers for office. But if this were true, St. Ronnie of Dementia would never have been elected. Nor W. Nor Rick Perry in Texas. Americans (and especially those who are called white in this country) are enamored of his bellicosity, his jingoism (however affected it may be), his self-centered maniacal lack of humility. It makes them feel bigger and more important, even as he–a plutocrat of the first order–looks down on all of them. In Trump, and his support among working class white people, one sees the drama of American racism, white supremacy and class confusion played out in one man. Presume his demise at your own peril.
As a character, Donald Trump is hedonistic and irresponsible, narcissistic almost to the point of solipsism, and often extremely insensitive to the feelings of those around him. On TV and print he is nevertheless quite charismatic which causes many jackasses to ignore his other flaws.
I had to look up solipsism:
the view or theory that the self is all that can be known to exist.
